Y si no vengan a verme a mi.

Back to school with heavy backpacks

It is September, time goes flying... We have spent lots of money sending back our kids to the school. Why so much money? You can help it but to give to those who are your own as you are remind it that you were once in their shoes.  Talking about shoes, the ones they have now they are small even though they did not wore them that much. And the notebooks have to be new, because last years style are not in anymore. I forgot about the back pack, the old one is just that old and the new one are cooler and nicer. So one more year and they keep growing and so their homeworks and the amount of books they have to carry with them to school. My daughter, has a backpack that weights about 30 to 45 pounds depending on the day. The problem with so much weight is that it is only cool to carry the back pack on one shoulder, so putting so much weight in one side of the body is not good. It pulls the spine to the side where you carry the backpack developing spinal deviations, back and neck pain. The solution is to carry some books in your arms and the rest in your backpack with both stripes in your shoulders. If the schools allows it use backpacks with wheels. If that does not solve the problem come to see me.

What is Health?

That is the million dollar answer isn't it. For most people health is not having any kind of pain. Now, is that really true? Part of the time it is. When you are not hurting you fill great and dandy, you do not seem to notice you have a body until it signal some kind of alarm in the form of pain. The truth of the matter is that whether I like it or not, most people think this way. The real truth is that pain is a very poor parameter to determine if a person is healthy or sick. A few example we all know or have known someone that had this happen to them. Did not have any pain went for a regular check up and found I was on the edge of a heart attack, or the doctors found cancer, or a herniated disc... and the list can go on. Something all this people had in common, none of them felt unhealthy but they were really sick. So can we be in control of our health? According to the parameter of pain, no one can, but hang on there is hope. The World Health Organization defines a person healthy as someone with an optimal social, physical and emotional wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease. Which means in lay terms that if we take responsibility for all the areas of our lives, then we can certainly be healthy.
